Frequently asked questions
How is liquidation price calculated?
For isolated long: Liquidation Price = Entry x (1 - 1/Leverage + Maintenance Margin + Fee). For short: Entry x (1 + 1/Leverage - Maintenance Margin - Fee). Higher leverage means liquidation is closer to entry.
What is maintenance margin in crypto futures?
Maintenance margin is the minimum equity required to keep a position open. On Binance it starts at 0.5% for BTC. If your margin falls below this level, the exchange liquidates your position automatically.
How far is liquidation at 10x leverage?
At 10x leverage with 0.5% maintenance margin, a long position gets liquidated approximately 9.5% below entry price. At 100x leverage this shrinks to about 0.5% — extremely tight.
Does liquidation price differ between Binance and Bybit?
Yes. Each exchange uses different maintenance margin tiers and fee structures. Binance uses mark price for liquidation, not last traded price. Always check your specific exchange settings before trading.
